Not sure if other business owners do this, but I am terrible for asking myself why do I offer the services I do.

BACK STORY

I started nursing back in 1976, so many peoples lifetimes, in the day it was only Junior Doctors that actually took blood. In 2018, I applied for the post of Practice Nurse within a Surgery in East Lancashire.

At my interview the GP, was informing me of my various roles and how I would be sent for the training needed. The he said you of course will be doing phlebotomy - blood taking, at which I said (thinking to self, that's it you are scuppered) 'I don't do bloods - never trained to take bloods. He said no problem we will send you for the training - my heart sank.

That was in 2018 and I learnt how to take bloods using a cannula and if I say so I am quite good but it is so disheartening when those veins either collapse or you are just not able to collect blood from them. Had seen people using the butterfly method but hadn't been trained to do so.

Last year in 2023, on my birthday, I enrolled with Total Therapy Training (an amazing Acupuncture and Therapies Centre) for their 2 day course in Macclesfield. I was taught to use 'butterfly cannula's'. Joy of joys, so much better.

Whilst there we were advised how we can register with Forth for Life. I am a Partner and all my blood tests are through this company. I do not have a 'Clinic Space' but I am able to travel around Preston and the Fylde Coast taking bloods for those requiring them.

The Why?

So this leads me back to the beginning my reasoning.

After working in GP Practices over the last few years you can't help noticing the grumbles regarding the inability to access the GP Practice for a blood test appointments, or the great waiting time to actually have bloods taken.

So I am not taking work away from the GP Practice, I know I am enhancing it because it means you can pick the test you think you need, if not on the list it can be put together for you and at a time convenient for you and in your own home. It's for everyone but there are those who can't wait for and appointment and want to know now.

I am catering for those who can afford and want their blood test now.

So some points for why Private Blood Tests:

  • Convenience and Speed

Faster Results: Private services can often provide quicker times for test results, in comparison to the NHS. This will be made clearer later.

Flexible Scheduling: Many private phlebotomist (blood takers) can offer more flexible appointment times, including evenings,

  • Privacy and Confidentiality

Discreet Testing: Private blood tests can offer a higher level of discretion, especially if done in the home.  In some cases it is particularly important for those tests involving sensitive health issues.

Personalised Service: There is at lot of focus regarding customer service within private healthcare, to ensure a more comfortable and private experience. Hence why The Diabetes Lady provides a mobile service to your home.

  • Accessibility

Direct access: You are more able to access testing services without needing a referral from a doctor, making it easier to get tested for specific conditions or for your regular health checks.

Wide Range of Tests:  I know that within Forth on are more able to access a broader array of tests, including those specialized or advanced diagnostic tests that may not be readily available through NHS.

  • Quality and Technology

State-of-the-Art-Equipment: Private labs often invest in the latest technology and equipment, which can enhance the accuracy and reliability of test results. They are all still in line with the NHS guidance and protocols.

Highly Trained Staff: The staff in private labs are often specialized and highly trained, providing expert analysis and interpretation of results.

  • Control over Health Management

Self-Empowerment:  Private blood testing allows, you, the individual to take a more proactive approach to your health, enabling regular monitoring and early detection of potential health issues.

Detailed Reports:  As a healthcare professional, this was my greatest surprised and joy. The reports went into so much detail and explanation, with references, but in a way making blood tests so mysterious

  • Reduced Wait Times

Immediate Testing:   We all know that at this time the NHS is struggling with GP appointments, which is having a knock on effect when it comes 1) tests required and 2) getting to see someone regarding your results quickly. Luckily, within the Mobile Service we are providing you should have your test and results within a week, as the results come straight to you.  https://tr.ee/clITOWuCpW this link takes you to the appropriate page to explain the process.

  • Specialised Services

Bespoke Testing Packages: Forth offers the opportunity for bespoke testing packages tailored to specifically to your needs and your health concerns, such as heart health, hormonal balance, or nutritional deficiencies.

Lifestyle Monitoring:  For those amongst us who focused on their fitness, wellness, or chronic disease management, private blood testing can provide the relevant information to help you make the very best out of your lifestyle and treatment plans.

  • Follow-Up and Support

Dedicated Support:  The Diabetes Lady offers discussion regarding your results and next steps.  I of for those with Diabetes offer both Virtual and Mobile Service to aid with your Diabetes.  I have access to clinicians and therapists providing all manner of care, including a local Fertility Practitioner.

On the whole, private blood testing services have their place. They are more able to provide an accessible, efficient and personalised approach to health monitoring and diagnostics, making them an valuable option for individuals. Especially, for those individuals seeking more control and convenience, managing their health. For my LinkedIn Account https://tr.ee/APbIA6EX_O
